First Voices Indigenous Radio brings to the airwaves the experiences, perspectives and struggles of Indigenous people who have been almost totally excluded from both mainstream and progressive, alternative media. Our purpose is to help ensure the continuance and survival of Indigenous cultures and Nations by letting the People tell their own story, in their own words, and often in their own languages and ways of speaking. And with as little outside interference and interruption as possible.

Sunday February 28 at 6:30pm Please join us on Sunday Feb 28 at 6:30pm for a benefit performance of Full Moon Vocalise bringing the Lakota Flute tradition to all New Yorkers in a celebration of the Ant Project by artist Xavier Roux at The Invisible Dog Art Center in downtown Brooklyn. In this simple and profound ritual, called Vocalise, our voices inspired by the Lakota flute, join together and awaken us to all that is.

Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 7:00 pm Association of Indigenous Councils of Northern Cauca, ACIN Screening and discussion with Mario Murrillo from WBAI's Wake Up Call. A suggested donation of $5 will help purchase a new radio transmitter that was blown up during the recent violent acts against Indigenous people in Colombia. Last November, after word spread across this Indian reservation that seven people had been kidnapped by leftist rebels, the community's unarmed "Indigenous guard" sprang into action.
